We live in a world full of organisations and businesses that want our attention. Whether it’s promoting a good cause, a new publication, a certain political view or a new phone: it takes a lot to get people’s attention. And so, communications jobs are everywhere. And even if you don’t care for the idea of selling something, in almost every job there is an element of strategic communication to get things done a certain way. But what does it take to become a true communications specialist? And what humanities skills will help you on that path?

This month we speak to several of Utrecht University’s Humanities alumni about their careers in the field of communications. If you already have a question you want answered by (one of) them, contact Josi Smit.

Elisanne van As
Elisanne works in communications at Leger des Heils (the Salvation Army). Leger des Heils dedicates itself to support the most vulnerable people in our society. Elisanne started working there during her Bachelor’s in Communication and Information Studies, about two years ago. She also has experience as social media editor and was involved with Study Association SV Contact as vice-chairman of the educational committee. This episode is in English.
